Core Unit Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics

The Core Unit Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics (CUMP) offers state-of-the-art proteomic research to all members of the University Medical Center and Ulm University as well as to ecternal industrail and academic partners.

Currently, CUMP employs a Thermo Scientific LTQ-Orbitrap Velos Pro online coupled to a Dionex RSLCnano uPLC. This combinatinn allows identification and quantitation of thousands of proteins and post-translational modifications (PTMs). In addition, a multi-dimensional HPLC is used for peptide and protein fractionation via strong cation exchange (SC) or size exclusion (SE) chromatography.

The services provided by the CUMP include all steps of proteomics based research. From conceptional advice to experimental procedures and practical tipps a detailed guidance is provided by the members of the CUMP. Employing SCX-chromatography and/or SDS-PAGE offer powerfull sample fractionation methods. Different fragmentation methods (CID, HCD, MSA) can be employed during MS analysis. For data analysis tailored software tools are available. 

The estalished methods and technologies allow the tackling of a broad spectrum of biological and medical relevant questions. Whereby complex qualitative as well as quantitative (SILAC, label-free, isobaric tags) analyses can be performed.
